Shailene Woodley Dyes Her Hair Red to Play Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Shailene Woodley looks the part! The 21-year-old actress debuted her new red hair on the set of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in New York City on Monday, Feb. 25. The former brunette will play the superhero's love interest, Mary Jane Watson, a role last played by Kirsten Dunst in director Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy.
Dunst, 30, thinks the Oscar-nominated Descendants actress is the perfect person to play the beloved comic book character. "I think she's a sweetheart and such a good actress," the Bachelorette star told MTV in 2012. "I'm happy. If I had to pick someone, I'm happy she's following in my shoes."
Andrew Garfield was also seen shooting scenes for the Amazing Spider-Man sequel in the Big Apple. In between takes, the series' leading man kept his character's famous red and blue costume hidden underneath an oversized parka. The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which also stars Emma Stone and Jamie Foxx, is in theaters May 2, 2014.
Woodley has a lot on her plate this year, as ABC Family's Secret Life of the American Teenager will end after five seasons on June 3, 2013. "It was a bittersweet day, that last day," the actress told Us Weekly at Rebecca Taylor's fashion show in New York City Feb. 9. "It was five years and it was an amazing chapter in my life, but it's also great to be moving on, to be moving forward onto other things."
In addition to filming The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Woodley said, "I'm working on a project called Divergent, and Kate Winslet just signed on. I'm really excited to meet her! I've been watching her since Titanic when I was 8 years old, so I'm really looking forward to getting to know her."
