Shia's rep says the actor "has taken the first of many necessary steps toward recovery," while making it clear that Shia has not entered a rehab facility. The treatment he has elected "sounds like" a 12-step program, writes TMZ which also posted photos of the actor carrying an Alcoholics Anonymous book.
His decision to seek treatment comes on the heels of his June 26 arrest in New York where he was taken into custody in handcuffs after being escorted out of a production of "Cabaret" at Studio 54. Following his arrest, a NYPD spokesperson told Us Weekly that Shia "has been charged with disorderly conduct. He was also charged with criminal trespass. While at Studio 54 he was upsetting patrons, being loud and yelling."
