Police have charged 3 Doors Down bassist Todd Harrell with vehicular homicide following a fatal car accident on Friday, April 19, in Nashville, Tenn., CNN reports. Officers said the musician was speeding along the interstate when his car clipped a pickup truck, sending it into a guardrail and then down an embankment, where it flipped over.
Harrell, 41, reportedly showed signs of impairment when he underwent a field sobriety test. Police said he acknowledged consuming hard cider and taking prescription Lortab and Xanax; they also discovered Oxycodone and Oxymorphone pills in his sock when he was booked at a local station.
According to the Associated Press, Harrell was being held in custody on Sunday in lieu of $100,000 bond. He faces a court appearance later this week.
"We are deeply saddened by the passing of Paul Howard Shoulders, Jr.," the band said in a statement on its website. "Our hearts and prayers go out to his family and friends at this difficult time."
