Janice Dickinson revealed on Monday that she has breast cancer. The former supermodel shared in a new interview that she was diagnosed with the disease earlier this month after her doctor found a small lump in her breast during a routine checkup.
“It’s still quite shocking,” Dickinson told the Daily Mail. “Today I got very scared… But I am not gonna let that define me, the fear. I’m going to get through this, I’ll be just fine kiddo.” The reality star was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma, one of the most common types of breast cancer. “It’s quite responsive to treatment… and they’ve caught it early,” she noted.
“When the doctor found the lump it hurt,” she added. “It became quite painful when you touch it. That’s the point when I knew this is serious, when the doctor touched this little lump in my right breast, about the size of a pea, and I went bingo, I have cancer.” The former supermodel is expected to undergo surgery this week to have the lump removed, and radiation therapy will follow. Fortunately, Dickinson has a non-invasive type of ductal carcinoma, meaning the cancer hasn’t spread to surrounding breast tissues.
“Don’t feel sorry for me, this is not a pity party,” Dickinson said about her disease, which is treatable and has high survival rates. “I’m Janice Dickinson and I’m gonna stick around for a long, long time, you ain’t getting rid of me yet.”
