As it turns out, she decided that freezing in Boston snow was more fun than attending the Academy Awards.
The star was spotted shopping at a mall, bundled up to the nines, and carrying her tiny dog Pippi. Wearing 10 layers of weather-proof clothing is still more comfortable than squeezing into a tiny, poufy dress.
"The Hunger Games" star -- who has been nominated for Oscars three times in the last five years, winning once -- has been in Boston working on the upcoming bio-pic "Joy," the real-life story of Joy Mangano, a single mom who became a world-famous entrepreneur after inventing the Miracle Mop.
"Joy" is directed by David O. Russell, who previously worked with Lawrence on "American Hustle" and S"ilver Linings Playbook," for which Lawrence took home her Oscar.
While Lawrence was hanging out at a snowy mall, she missed out on the live performance of "Everything is Awesome" and a score of other memorable moments.
