OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Plenty of warehouses dot an industrial section of Lincoln in southeast Nebraska, but only one rumbles with the resonant peals of gongs.
That's where New York City native Andrew Borakove (BOHR'-uh-kohv) keeps his inventory for Gongs Unlimited and "tests" the merchandise daily for customers who call wanting a certain sound.
The 51-year-old Borakove was a struggling television comedy writer in Los Angeles when he was hit with the notion to sell gongs.
His research showed high demand for the flat, metal musical discs, but few sellers on the Internet. He started Gongs Unlimited in 2005 with a $3,000 line of credit.
Two years later, Borakove and his business moved to Lincoln's southwest edge — sight unseen — after another whim, this time to relocate to a midsize Midwest community.
