Why Candice Bergen Kept Her 2006 Stroke a Secret
Candice Bergen is finally opening up about a shocking health scare she hid from friends, fans, and costars years ago.
In an interview with New York Magazine, Bergen, 65, admitted she suffered a minor stroke in 2006. When asked why she made it a point to keep it secret, she told the mag she didn't "want it to be a liability."
At the time, the Murphy Brown star was filming Boston Legal with costars James Spader, William Shatner, and Julie Bowen, the ABC comedy which wrapped in 2008. Despite her illness, Bergen only missed two weeks of work.
Nearly six years later, Bergen admits that the stroke is a reality she still deals with every day. Ever since, she says, "My memory is just--it's not quite these same."
Currently, Bergen is set to hit the stage for a Broadway revival of Gore Vidal's The Best Man. Since finishing Boston Legal, she has appeared on the big screen in The Women, Bride Wars, and has guest-starred on House.
