Zachary Quinto "Incredibly Grateful" for Support Since Coming Out

USMagazine, Tuesday, October 18, 2011, 7:49am (PDT)

Zachary Quinto is still riding high from the amount of support he's received in the wake of his decision to come out as a gay man in a New York Magazine interview.

"I feel so incredibly grateful to all of the people who've reached out to me directly or indirectly or just in spirit," Margin Call's Quinto, 34, told The Associated Press Monday at his film's New York City premiere. "I feel really, really like my entire future is laid out in a different way and it's thrilling and scary and overwhelming."

Acknowledging his sexual orientation in the New York Magazine interview, Quinto said he was inspired to come out after the tragic suicide of 14-year-old Jamey Rodemeyer, who took his own life in September after being bullied.

"In light of Jamey's death, it became clear to me in an instant that living a gay life without publicly acknowledging it is simply not enough to make any significant contribution to the immense work that lies ahead on the road to complete equality," Quinto wrote on his personal blog Sunday.

The Star Trek actor tells the AP he looks forward to the day when revealing your true sexual orientation "won't be hard."

"There've been people on this path who were much bigger trailblazers than me who did this at a time when it was even harder," Quinto tells the AP. "If me standing up and making some kind of acknowledgement and declaration helps that then I can't ask for anything more out of my life."
