Katherine Heigl Discharged from 'Grey's Anatomy'
In the final few minutes of Thursday night's episode of "Grey's Anatomy," Dr. Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl) was fired from the staff of Seattle Grace Hospital.
Dr. Richard Webber (James Pickens, Jr.) took this drastic measure following Izzie making a potentially fatal medical error with a kidney patient. Izzie survived cancer, but could not survive the hospital's budget cuts.
Izzie also left husband Dr. Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) via a note she placed in his locker. He solemnly shared the news with his bewildered colleagues Dr. Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) and Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo).
There has been much speculation since last season whether or not she would remain scrubbed in. The actress also has a burgeoning film career and recently adopted a daughter. Watch "Grey's Anatomy" on Thursday nights on ABC to see if Izzie checks back in.
