Catholic Church Plans to Boycott Tom Hanks' Film "Angels and Demons"
One of Hollywood's most beloved stars, Tom Hanks, has a hater: the Catholic church.
The Vatican is reportedly calling for a Catholic boycott of Tom Hanks' upcoming film "Angels & Demons." The Archbishop Velasio De Paolis warned, however, that a boycott may cause a "boomerang effect" giving the movie more publicity.
In "Angels and Demons," Hanks reprises his "Da Vinci Code" role of Robert Langdon, who is now attempting to save the Vatican from being destroyed by a canister of anti-matter.
Okay, so Tom Hanks is trying to SAVE the Vatican in the movie? Sure, it's a wildly sensationalized fictional story about a terrorist threat on the Catholic Church, but come on, Vatican, can't you take a joke?
The Church was already enraged over "The Da Vinci Code," which suggested that Jesus was secretly married to Madonna, err, Mary Magdalene ... sorry, we can't keep these stories straight.
Vatican spokesman Father Marco Fibbi commented on their consideration of the ban: "Usually we read the script but in this case it wasn't necessary. Just the name Dan Brown was enough."
