It's probably too early in the week to play armchair psychiatrist, but we're going to do it anyway because your reaction to Ryan Gosling's alleged behavior in the following story likely says something about your own personality.
The New York Post claims the actor jumped to the defense of girlfriend Eva Mendes (aka the most envied woman alive) after he felt an acquaintance wasn't showing her (and seemingly him) the proper respect.
The couple, who are in the midst of promotional duties for "The Place Beyond the Pines," were reportedly at Manhattan's Bowery Hotel on Friday night when a fashion photographer who'd recently snapped Mendes greeted her with a casual, "Hey, baby!"
"Ryan completely flipped out, and it got heated," a spy contends of the peacemaking, life-saving star. "Ryan got in the guy's face and said, 'Who are you calling 'baby'? Eva had to jump in and calm everyone down before it came to fisticuffs. Ryan then made nice and shook the guy's hand."
Leaving aside whether this was just a misunderstood greeting of bros, the question is, do you find Ryan's purported behavior swoon-worthy (as in, he's being protective and defending his woman) or unnecessarily dramatic (i.e., Take it down a notch, guy: She's a grown woman and can speak for herself)? Your answer might prove illuminating.
The night before the supposed photographer dust-up, Gosling, 32, and Mendes, 39, attended a bash for the film at the same hotel. But just as they've done during interviews, the privacy-seeking pair of 18 months steered clear of each other.
"I didn't see Eva and Ryan interact once," relays an attendee. "They stayed at opposite ends of the room from one another."
Gosling attended the shindig with his mom, arriving and exiting separately from his girlfriend.
In the coming months, he'll have plenty of time to take offense to random, too-intimate greetings: He's planning a big-screen breather. "I need a break from myself as much as I imagine the audience does," he told the Associated Press.
