Given the whispers of Tom's insulated life inside the Church of Scientology and his lawyer's statement that he was "really sad" about the split, it doesn't seem like the best time to suggest that he has another attractive young brunette on the hook.
But that's what sources on the set of "Oblivion" imply to the New York Post, enthusing how Cruise, 50, has "a great deal of chemistry" with his co-star, "Quantum of Solace" brunette Olga Kurylenko, 32.
Never mind that, right now, most ladies would balk at entering Tom's "Dianetics"-fueled inner sanctum.
The evidence, such as it is: While filming in New York last month, Cruise and Kurylenko were photographed holding hands and smiling at each other. In other words, they were acting.
Granted, Tom does have a habit of wooing co-workers (see Nicole Kidman and Penelope Cruz), but in this case, Olga already has a 50-year-old guy to call her own. She's dating busy character actor Danny Huston.
"They are shooting a movie and they are actors," pooh-poohs Cruise's rep. "Their chemistry on set is them acting. It's their job."
Kurylenko's rep concurs (presumably after advising the actress to back away slowly before breaking into a run), huffing to the paper, "Completely not true. She is dating Danny Huston. You are so going down the wrong path."
The rumors have been pushed twice before in recent weeks without gaining any traction, possibly because the most compelling part of the divorce drama is how Katie seemingly caught her control-loving husband flat-footed with a brilliant exit strategy.
