Well, that's one way to quash breakup rumors! On the heels of quickly dismissed reports that Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux were on the outs, they have announced their engagement after more than a year of couple-dom.
The betrothal comes on the heels of rampant speculation that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were tying knot this weekend in France, and it should make the tabloids do a collective happy dance for the inevitable "race to the altar" cover stories it will spawn.
The endless love triangle aside, we can't be the only ones who let out a "yippee!" at Aniston's engagement. The news comes more than seven years after her surprise split from Pitt, who quickly segued into family life with Jolie.
Matrimonial talk has been circulating for months, but it hit a fever pitch in June after Jen and Justin's extended European vacation.
That same month, the never-married writer-director gushed that he "could not be happier" right now, adding, "I always go to bed thinking I'm the luckiest guy in the world."
Aniston, 43, whose post-Brad dating life included the major misstep that was John Mayer, has been equally effusive about Theroux, 41, whom she bonded with while shooting "Wanderlust" in 2010.
"He's a protector, for sure," she told the May issue of Marie Claire. "He's just a good human being, and so funny."
The couple first stepped out together in May 2011, a few months after Theroux called it quits with his longtime live-in love, Heidi Bivens. Since then, he and Jen have cohabited in New York and Los Angeles.
Last week, rumblings of a relationship rift began percolating but were quickly quieted when Theroux surfaced on the North Carolina set of Aniston's currently filming movie, "We're the Millers."
