The documents to officially end their six-year union (2005-2011) and return the pair to single status were filed Tuesday by the actor's attorney.
The reason for the lengthy hold-up: moolah. Demi, who is believed to be worth far more than Ashton, apparently wanted a healthy cut (an estimated $25 million) from his tech investments, along with spousal support.
TMZ says that in order to move things along, Kutcher, 35, offered his long-estranged missus, 51, "somewhat more than he had to," although spousal support was not part of the deal.
Ashton's extra bit of generosity clears the path for him to pop the question to Kunis, whom he first stepped out with in April 2012 (we hope the ring is engraved "Jackie & Kelso 4eva"). Engagement rumors have been percolating for months, although pregnancy speculation that surfaced this week was quickly shot down.
"He's set on proposing to Mila, He can't wait to start his life with her," a source recently told People, with another enthusing, "And they both want kids. It's something they're vocal about. I can't imagine it will be very long before she's pregnant."
