George Clooney tends to prefer his arm candy leggy and relatively uncomplicated (see Stacy Keibler and Elisabetta Canalis). But is the guy who would rather "float away into space and die than spend another minute with a woman his own age" expanding his horizons with a smart, sophisticated and politically minded British barrister?
Four months after the Oscar winner, 52, first dismissed reports of a romance with attorney Amal Alamuddin, 36, the two were spotted looking cozy at a Feb. 18 White House screening of "The Monuments Men" for President Barack Obama and various government officials.
"They were holding hands," Harry Ettlinger, who's one of the inspirations for the film, tells People, adding that Amal "is a beautiful lady. I said to myself, 'George, you did a lot of good things and you sure know how to pick them!'"
Alamuddin, who specializes in international, criminal and human rights law and represents WikiLeaks mastermind Julian Assange in his extradition proceedings with Sweden, wasn't on the official guest list, although White House sources confirm she was at the screening, says the London Daily Mail.
Also invited: George's co-stars, Matt Damon and Bill Murray, along with his parents, Nick and Nina Clooney. Clooney and Alamuddin were later seen at a post-screening gathering of the cast at a Washington, D.C. bar.
"They looked very much together," says a spy. "George had his arm around her, and she appeared to be a girlfriend."
Echoes another spy to People, ""They just seemed very, very together. They were stuck like glue."
But we wonder if Alamuddin, who graduated from Oxford, speaks three languages, served as a U.N. advisor on Syria and nabbed the top spot on a list of London's "hottest barristers," has enough patience for a confirmed bachelor whose greatest joy in life is pulling practical jokes on his friends. Wouldn't that get old, no matter how many times he's been named Sexiest Man Alive or how many Oscars he's won?
After Clooney's "non-romantic" dinner with Amal last October in London, his camp explained that they were working together on a surveillance satellite program over Syria.
