Cameron Diaz's long and varied romantic history includes long-term romances with Justin Timberlake, Matt Dillon, Jared Leto and Alex Rodriguez, along with short-term entanglements with the likes of (eep) Criss Angel. But has she added a twice-married tech mogul to the list? The New York Post says the actress, 40, has been "spending time" with Elon Musk, 41, the South African-born billionaire businessman behind PayPal, space exploration company SpaceX and Tesla Motors.
Seems the two became acquainted after Diaz bought a coveted Tesla electric car, and Musk has supposedly been making frequent trips to visit her in Los Angeles from the company's headquarters in Palo Alto, Calif.
Musk has his own Hollywood connection: "Iron Man" director Jon Favreau has said he used the workaholic mogul as inspiration for the film version of Tony Stark (alas, he appears to lack Robert Downey Jr.'s muscle tone). Still, if the Post is correct in claiming that Cameron is getting "close" to Musk, she should probably proceed with caution.
His first marriage, to Canadian novelist Justine Musk, ended bitterly in 2008 after eight years and five sons (twins and triplets). In a revealing 2010 tell-all for Marie Claire titled "I Was a Starter Wife," Justine detailed the alleged inner workings of their union, from the ominous statement Musk made as they danced at their wedding reception ("I am the alpha in this relationship") to the post-nuptial agreement he had her sign to his insistence that she dye her hair ever lighter shades of blond.
Musk quickly rebounded with British actress Talulah Riley, who is 14 years his junior. They married in September 2010, but the union soon fizzled.
"I will love you forever," Musk tweeted to her in January 2012. "You will make someone very happy one day." He added to Forbes, "I still love her, but I'm not in love with her. And I can't really give her what she wants. … Every day was just too difficult."
But Riley confirmed in early May that they were back together and cohabiting in his massive Bel-Air mansion. On May 15, they cuddled up at Maxim's Hot 100 party in Los Angeles.
Diaz, for her part, prefers a Type A kind of guys. "I want someone who takes care of themselves, who's strong," she told Esquire UK last year. "To hear people are engaged in life like that is exciting to me."
