Gwyneth graduated from high school in 1990 and moved to Los Angeles, where she briefly studied at the University of California, Santa Barbara. In July 1991, she shared the stage with her mom in a production of "Picnic" at the Williamstown Theatre Festival despite having little previous acting experience. But the performance proved to Gwyneth's parents that she'd caught the acting bug, so Bruce and Blythe encouraged their daughter to pursue an acting career rather than a degree. In 1991, she booked a small role in "Shout" alongside John Travolta. Then in May 1992, Gwyneth was cast in her first television role in the NBC miniseries "Cruel Doubt," also starring her mother. "She got the part first, and I guess they thought I looked right as her mother,'' Blythe said. The next year, Gwyneth appeared in "Flesh and Bone," officially introducing herself to the Hollywood big leagues.
