'The Bachelorette: After the Final Rose': A Summer Wedding?
Ali Fedotowsky and Roberto Martinez are officially engaged! After the dramatic, romantic finale of "The Bachelorette," the key players reunited for "The Bachelorette: After the Final Rose" -- including Chris L. -- to recount their emotional journey Monday night.
"I'm thrilled," said Ali, who was very excited to be officially reunited with Roberto in public. She told host Chris Harrison that the two had been texting like crazy during the time they had to keep their union a secret leading up to Monday night's finale. "Every time I'm with him he makes me feel so good."
Ali revealed she initially thought Roberto was a player, "but he's the farthest thing from that. … It just felt right. … I'm so glad that that first instinct was right, and I'm so happy how things turned out."
"I tell her all the time, I can't believe we met on a TV show, that's crazy," said Roberto. "I love this woman with all my heart. There's nothing else I can say."
"It's better than I thought it could be," said Roberto of being engaged to Ali. Referring to having to keep their secret, he said, "I haven't been able to live a normal life, so I'm looking forward to that."
Until now, Ali and Roberto have been able to meet in secret once every two weeks to keep the flame alive. Asked about their future plans together, Ali revealed that they got an apartment together to rent in San Diego, and Roberto has moved his business there. As for her work, she is still trying to determine what to do.
"As long as we're together, that's all that matters," she said.
As for wedding bells, Ali revealed, "We've talked about possibly next summer," but laughed that Roberto is anxious to do it even sooner!
On her wild emotional ride with Frank, who had decided he had to follow his heart with a former love, Ali said, "It's unfortunate that it happened that way … It's just hard for me to understand how he thought he was going to propose to me, and then the next day he leaves." Asked what may have happened if Frank didn't go back to his former girlfriend, Ali said, "I have no way of knowing that. … I probably would have brought Frank to my family. I take it one day at a time."
Frank backed out and chose not to face Ali on the program, despite being scheduled to talk with Ali and clear the air with her. Ali reacted to the news, saying, "I think what he did was selfish, but coming here would be a chance to tell me why [he chose to do what he did]." … I'm happy that he's found love, and I'm even more happy that I found love. … I forgive him, and I wish he was here so I can tell him and put it all behind us."
Chris L., who was Ali's second choice to Roberto, was there to talk about the heartbreak of losing Ali's heart to Roberto's. "It's unbelievably hard [to watch the breakup again tonight], because it hurt the first time," said the Cape Cod landscaper. "Every time I went on a date with her, every moment I spent with her, I fell in love with her even more. We had a great connection. … That's the thing about love; you can't control who you fall in love with and who you don't. … She didn't feel it, so I can't force it. You can't force love."
Reunited, Chris and Ali were clearly happy to be in each others' company, and Ali said, "It's weird, but it's good. I think that we had a really great thing, and Chris is a really good man, and it's good to see him."
Chris asked her what she learned from their relationship, and she replied, "I think that you helped me learn a lot about what I was looking for. … I have so much respect for you Chris, I think you're a really good guy."
Chris said of the experience, "It made me realize I'm ready to go back, I'm ready to fall in love." He then said to Ali, "Thank you so much for taking me on this journey, and I'm so happy you found love, because that's what you're here for."
At the end of the episode, Ali and Roberto were told that they would be hopping on a helicopter for an all-expenses-paid-trip to Catalina Island. Ah, romance!
