There's a rash of sweetness plaguing this year's crop of Best Supporting Actor Oscar nominees. Various UK tabloids are reporting that Michael Fassbender, Bradley Cooper and Jared Leto are all plannng to leave their girlfriends at home on Sunday and bring their moms to the Academy Awards instead. It seems that Fassbender is the latest nominee to join the mother-as-date crowd, and will be flying both of his parents to Los Angeles to Hollywood.
Leto, who's nominated for his work in "Dallas Buyer's Club," recently explained to RTE.com why he likes bringing his mom as a date to awards shows.
"We were born very poor and into pretty humble surroundings. My mother always wanted to do something better with her life and for her children. She was a dreamer and a worker," he said. "The biggest lesson she taught me was to dream and then to do the work that it takes to make dreams a reality. It has beenfun to bring her around. ‘The best part of these opportunities to stand up and say something is to be able to thank the people who have believed in you for so long. I could spend every singleone of these events thanking my mother. She's the best."
