Makeup-free and un-retouched, this is what Kate Winslet, Brad Pitt and Scarlett Johansson actually look like up close. Make that "Close." Renowned photographer Chuck Close shot a slew of actors for Vanity Fair's Hollywood issue using extremely realistic lighting and not a hint of glam. According to the magazine -- whose Close portfolio also features Oprah Winfrey, Julia Roberts and George Clooney -- the images were shot with a rare 20-by-24 Polaroid camera.
"I don't do glamour shots, and they're not airbrushed or whatever. So they can be, um … they can be rough. So I need to talk people through it," he told Vanity Fair.
Close also gave his subjects a few rules for their shoots. As excerpted on SFGate.com, they included: "Arrive alone or with one close friend or associate … Be available for three hours … Be responsible for your own look -- no professional styling or hair or makeup … Be content with coffee and deli sandwiches or salads-- nothing fancy will be served … Get to the studio under your own steam."
