Back in 2009, Ellen Page appeared in a "Saturday Night Live" skit that toyed with rumors about her sexuality. Dubbed a "primo lesbian," she joked, "Gay, no way! Why does everything have a freaking label? Why can't I just hug a woman with my legs in friendship?" In a recent interview with the Guardian that mostly centered around Page's stance as a feminist and how she's been affected by sexism, she was asked whether she was nervous at just 21 to confront rumors she was gay (stemming mostly from her tendency to dress like a tomboy) on TV.
"It will sound like I'm making this up but I don't think I even thought about it at the time," she said. "I just thought the skit was funny. All of that gossip is silly — people caring about [celebrities' personal lives] — I just don't get it."
Page herself sparked a new round of such gossip when she tweeted a photo of her and Alexander Skarsgard cuddling up together in the grass. The Guardian reporter noted that "she blushed" when his name came up -- but she simply referred to him as her "male friend."
