French Right-Winger Threatens To Sue Over Madonna's Swastika Imagery
Obviously, Marine Le Pen, president of the French right-wing political party Front National, was not watching MTV like the rest of us back when like the "Like a Prayer" video came out. If she had been, she'd know by now that Madonna means no harm when she uses iconography associated with certain groups in ways those groups might not like. During Madge's Tel Aviv show last week, her performance of "Nobody Knows Me" involved a video montage that included a scene in which Le Pen's face appeared with a swastika across her forehead. Le Pen, who identifies herself as a Zionist, has been accused of racism over her statements about Muslims and immigration. And she is now warning Madonna that if that image appears during her shows in France, she'll sue, adding, "We understand how old singers who need to get people talking about them go to such extremes." Oh, please, Marine. Go back and watch every video Madonna made in the '80s already. (Jezebel)
