Zach Galifianakis is taking a woman he rescued from homelessness to 'The Hangover Part III' premiere.
When Zach Galifianakis hits the red carpet at Monday night's "The Hangover Part III" premiere, he'll have a very special friend on his arm: Elizabeth "Mimi" Haist. An 87-year-old laundress, Haist and Galifianakis have been buddies for almost 20 years, according to the Daily News. "I'm looking forward to it, I like the excitement of it," says Haist, whose rent and utilities have been covered by the 43-year-old actor since he learned she was homeless two years ago. Haist also accompanied Galifianakis to premieres for "The Campaign" and "The Hangover Part II." "If he's in town, he takes me," she says. "Otherwise he lets me take a friend. I dress up nice and a friend helps me with my makeup. It's fun, not something I've ever dreamed I'd experience. The limo takes me home afterwards."
The pair first met when Galifianakis first moved to Los Angeles in 1994 and used Fox Laundry, where Haist would "volunteer" for tips. Eventually, "The Hangover" made him a star and he stopped coming in to do laundry, though their friendship obviously survived. Muses Haist: "Maybe he has his own washer and dryer now."
