In case you didn't recognize him, that's Robert Downey Jr. to the far left with the bra on his head in the 1985 John Hughes comedy "Weird Science." While Anthony Michael Hall starred as uber-geek Gary, Downey played a supporting role as a popular bully named Ian. Except this bully wasn't of the blond Spader variety; instead, he was a stylish "new wave" jerk. Once again, the genius of Hughes resides not only in his attention to character, but also his unique ability to understand the different types of high school cliques.
The "Weird Science" role showcased Downey's wacky brand of humor, which later landed him starring roles in "Less Than Zero" (with Spader!), "The Pick-Up Artist" (with Molly Ringwald!) and more. It's just too bad Hughes didn't direct "Soul Man." If that '86 flop had been helmed by the master, and starred Downey -- in full-on "Tropic Thunder" mode -- instead of C. Thomas Howell, it might've stood the test of time.
