Before Beyonce was honored with MTV's prestigious Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, she performed a 14-song, 15-minute-long medley of tracks from her self-titled visual album to close out the VMAs. It was certainly an ambitious performance -- and one that came complete with Bey's requisite flawless live vocals, crotch shots, pole dancing, a wind machine, light show, Taylor Swift dancing along in the audience and more -- but we're not going to lie: We would have killed to see Bey tackle her whole catalog, and to see her Destiny's Child bandmates join her for a minute (how gorgeous would pregnant Kelly Rowland have looked up there?!).
But all was redeemed when the camera panned to Jay-Z in the audience holding their toddler daughter Blue Ivy Carter. As Bey wrapped up her performance, Jay and Blue joined her onstage to present her with the award, and Queen Bey teared up during the emotional moment. We cried a little too when little Blue started clapping for her mom and waving to the audience. "Blue, I love you. My beloved, I love you," she said of Jay -- at least temporarily quelling rumors that their marriage is on the rocks -- before adding, "My fans, I love you. MTV, I love you. Goodnight." A good night indeed.
