Patrick Swayze, Sept. 14, age 57: Swayze, a classically trained hoofer, danced his way into superstardom with "Dirty Dancing" and romanced his way into fans' hearts with "Ghost," died after a long and public battle with pancreatic cancer. Swayze had a run of film hits in the '80s and '90s, including "Road House," and worked tirelessly and uncomplainingly even though ill, on his final TV series, the well-reviewed "The Beast." He spoke openly of his battle with cancer, with grace and courage, thanking fans and his devoted wife Lisa Niemi for their support: "I've had more lifetimes than any 10 people put together, and it's been an amazing ride." We'll play "Unchained Melody" one more time in his honor.
