Farrah Fawcett, June 25, age 62: The style icon of the '70s and early '80s splashed onto the small screen in the Aaron Spelling confection "Charlie's Angels" in 1976, the same year she released her huge-selling pinup poster. Her tousled hairdo, full of waves, wings and half curls, launched a million imitators, and made Fawcett into the ideal California girl. She left "Angels" after just one season, and would go on to be a noted dramatic actress, in TV films like "Small Sacrifices," and in independent films like the quietly stunning "The Apostle." Her battle with anal cancer had rallied her fans and her heartbroken longtime companion, Ryan O'Neal, who was at her bedside when she succumbed to the disease.
