Britney's mom wins court order ahead of Sam Lutfi trial
Britney Spears' mother has obtained a court order banning the singer's former manager Sam Lutfi from accusing her of anti-Semitism in their upcoming defamation trial.
Lutfi, who was fired from the pop star's entourage in 2008 as her life unraveled following a breakdown, filed suit against Lynne Spears over allegations she made in her memoir, "Through the Storm: A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World."
In the book, she claimed Lutfi secretly drugged her daughter and refused to let her speak to family and friends.
Jury selection is currently underway in Los Angeles, but Lynne has taken steps to protect her name ahead of the trial amid fears Lutfi, who is Jewish, will try and portray her as an anti-Semite because he used the word "Svengali" to describe him in her autobiography. The term historically refers to the Wandering Jew who taunted Jesus Christ.
The matriarch recently filed court papers to prevent Lutfi from using the description in an attempt to bolster his case, and a judge approved the ban this week, declaring it not relevant and prejudicial, according to TMZ.com.
The "Toxic" hitmaker's mother, father Jamie and fiance Jason Trawick are all on the witness list and expected to take the stand when the trial begins, but Spears herself, who is still under a conservatorship, has been spared the stress. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Reva Goetz ruled last month that making her testify would cause her "irreparable harm and immediate danger."
Trawick and Jamie Spears serve as the singer's co-conservators.
