Demi Lovato is hopeful Cory Monteith's tragic death will remind recovering addicts to remain resilient in their sobriety battle because just one lapse in judgment can prove fatal.

Lovato has been working to overcome her own mental health problems and penchant for self-harming following a stint in treatment in 2010, and knows better than most how hard it is to always stay strong.
Monteith's passing from a lethal mix of heroin and alcohol last weekend hit home for Lovato and she recognizes the tough times the "Glee" star must have faced as he tried to kick his drug addiction once and for all, because she's faced them too.
She tells People.com, "All it takes is one moment of vulnerability to get slipped into your addiction. He didn't choose to die. It was the disease. It can creep up on you at any moment. It only takes one moment of relapse to potentially die. It's really scary, but I'm really hoping that from this, people are able to see this is a very, very, very dangerous disease."

And the 20-year-old is convinced life in the spotlight only exacerbates problems for addicts because the entertainment industry is riddled with enablers: "Promoters gave me drugs and alcohol in restaurants or clubs. They wanted me to come back so I would be seen there. ... Being a celebrity can be dangerous. Nobody says 'no.' That's why so many end up overdosing and dying. It could definitely have happened to me."
Monteith, 31, died less than three months after completing a treatment program in rehab.
