Taylor Swift and Harry Styles have carefully followed the celebrity hookup playbook, with a cute photo op, some implied sleepovers and major PDA. Truth is, we've all seen it before, so leave it to the British tabloids to spice things up.
Seems the London Sun has dubbed the doll-faced confessional chart-topper the new Yoko Ono because "there are fears [Harry's] relationship with [Taylor] could break up the band."
First up, kudos to the Sun for going with a storyline so old that it predates the parents of the tweens who love Swift and One Direction, most of whom probably weren't even born when the Beatles broke up. And second, Styles ain't no John Lennon.
Anyhoodie, the totally fact-telling tab claims trouble started when Taylor, 22, flew Harry, 18, from New York to London on Saturday in her luxurious private jet.
"There was loads of room for the rest of the band," grumbles a source. "But he didn't even suggest they [travel] together."
Instead, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne (otherwise known as the band members who dodged Swifty's affections) were forced to face down frenzied fans at Heathrow, with Liam Payne supposedly suffering "painful injuries in the scrum" (and yes, we also initially read "scrum" as something else entirely).
"It's really not far off from the Yoko situation," kvetches the spy, with another adding, "Her presence has stirred tensions in the band, as Harry's now spending most of his time with her."
Taylor did indeed stick close to Harry over the weekend, from watching backstage as 1D performed in Manchester to hanging out with him as the band rehearsed for an "X Factor" appearance.
But an insider insists to Gossip Cop that the nouveau Yoko tale is so much fiction, calling it "crazy" and untrue.
What is true: Swift turns 23 on Thursday, and to mark the occasion, she's releasing the video for "I Knew You Were Trouble." No word on whether Harry will be heard repeating "number nine" in the background.
