Who would ever guess that the macho men of country fight like dames?! Joe Don Rooney, Gary LeVox, and Jay DeMarcus of Rascal Flatts have been performing together for over 10 years, so there was bound to be a tiff or two. But while chatting with Wonderwall during their recent tour, it was smooth sailing as the trio dished on their favorite fan encounter, their partnership with Nexium 24HR, and which one is the prima donna. Keep reading for more highlights or check out the full interview in the video above.
On the craziest fan moment:
Jay DeMarcus: "Well, I'll tell you one thing that stands out in my mind from all time greatest fan stories ever, and that's that a lady scheduled her C-section that she was supposed to have during the day until after our concert that night. So as soon as we hit the last note of the show, she had her husband on standby to rush her to the hospital to have her C-section."
Joe Don Rooney: "She sat in the B-section, which was totally crazy."
Gary LeVox: "I asked her … I told her I'd do it but she wasn't going for it."
On how they handle disagreements and how they label each other:
JD: "I have to say that we love each other like brothers and we fight like brothers whenever there is a disagreement."
JDR: "We fight like sisters."
JD: "But it's really really a great relationship in that over the years we've tried to put one another first over ourselves. And I think that we've done a pretty good job holding to that philosophy. And when we do have disagreements, we sit down and we talk about them and we try to work 'em out and hear 'em and thankfully, fortunately we've been able to hear one another and work through any differences we may have had. Joe Don is the messy one, Gary is the prima donna, and I'm the perfect one."
JD: "There's always a perfect one in every band."
On their favorite foods and beverages while on tour:
GL: "Well, I think it differs for all of us, but we've really got good caterers out there. We try to, anyway. I'm an ice cream freak, so I've got to have Graeter's ice cream and I've gotta have Diet MTN Dew and I've gotta have Pringles. Kids, don't do this at …"
JD: "I like sardines in a can with a little bit of wine vinegar."
JDR: "We do suffer though, from frequent heartburn and, you know, so we are all about Nexium 24HR. You can go to Nexium24HR.com and find out more details. But since we do suffer from frequent heartburn, like the other thousands of people that have chosen Nexium 24HR, we can eat without hesitation. We don't have to worry about heartburn anymore."
JD: "We don't suffer from it anymore Joe Don."
JDR: "Not anymore. It's not in our lives anymore. We canceled that completely out. Done."
On how they discovered that they all three struggled with heartburn:
JD: "We told each other that we did."
JDR: "Willing to share."
JD: "No, we actually … all of us … you know, when you first sign a record deal, record labels like to send you to voice doctors to examine your vocal chords and make sure everything's good so that you can get a good gauge on where you are at certain points in your career and they can tell you what you're struggling with. And after a little while of being on the road and such a hectic schedule and eating junk food all of the time and fast food because that's the only thing available sometimes, we started to all deal with it and we started to talk about it and sure enough we were pretty sure that we were all dealing with the same symptoms."
GL: "Here's how I knew, because it hurt. Yeah, it did. Acidic things for me were not good and I struggled with it and I ate late. When I'm at home and we're off the road, I'm on a schedule where I've got kids and we're trying to get to bed by 9 o'clock, 9:30. Well, we're not even going to work until 9:20 at night. Just everything flip-flops so Nexium 24HR has been a heaven send for us."

On preventing heartburn before Nexium 24HR:
JD: "I think diet is a big part of it."
JDR: "You have to be cognizant of what you're eating and at what time of the day. That's what's beautiful about Nexium 24HR, you don't have to worry about that anymore. There's no walls anymore."
JD: "You can get as fat as you want to."
JDR: "You shouldn't have to worry about what you're eating. You really shouldn't. At the end of the day we all work hard. We want to play hard. But you just have to eat on the go sometimes with our lifestyle and Nexium 24HR helps us live without hesitation."
On what they do to take care of themselves while on a grueling tour:
GL: "Well, you know we have two hours to get up there to run around and sweat it out and we always play a lot of golf while we're out there and sometimes basketball and we try to do as much as we can while we're on the road and then everybody kind of does their own thing at their own house and when we're off the road. But check us out coming to a town near you. Go to RascalFlatts.com and Nexium24HR.com."
