Beyonce may be the more famous Knowles sister, but Solange is no slouch. In fact, this singer-actress-DJ has packed quite a lot into her 29 years on earth, both personally and professionally. To celebrate her birthday on June 24, let's take a look at Solange's highs and lows.
Solange Piaget Knowles was born to Xerox sales manager Mathew and hairdresser Tina in Houston on June 24, 1986. She was Mathew and Tina's second daughter: Their first, Beyonce, was born five years prior.
Solange expressed an interest in entertaining early on: She made her public singing debut at an amusement park at age 5 and began writing songs at age 9. By that time, her father had quit his job and was managing Beyonce's musical career with Girl's Tyme (later Destiny's Child). But when Solange approached her parents about pursuing singing professionally at age 13, they balked. "My parents constantly tried to talk me out of being an artist," she told Harper's Bazaar in 2014. "They had gone through the whole journey with my sister and just wanted me to have a normal teenage life."
