President Obama calls Katy Perry one of his 'favorite' people
Barack Obama's pop music fandom has been well-documented during his tenure in office, with Beyonce making regular White House appearances and Obama making frequent references in interviews to his affection for a wide range of singers, from Stevie Wonder to Bob Dylan to Linda Ronstadt. At a reception for the Special Olympics last week at the White House, the president added a certain candy-loving songstress to the top of his favorite artists pile.
"I love Katy Perry," he told the Washington Post before Perry's performance at the event. "She is just a wonderful person. I just met her mom, now I know why she's such a wonderful person."
A longtime supporter of Obama, Perry and the POTUS shared an exchange on Twitter last fall when she retweeted one of his messages promoting the Affordable Care act. In response, Obama thanked her for "spreading the word," hashtagging his reply "#ROAR" in a nod to her hit.
Perry, Obama added on Thursday, is "one of my favorite people."
