Art Meets Advertising Non-Sequiturs in Alexander Skarsgard's New Calvin Klein Ad
Sorry, make that "short film." "Provocations," Alexander Skarsgard's latest ad for Calvin Klein, opens with Alex and his leading lady, Suvi Koponen, rolling around in an embrace in the dirt while what sounds like an amplified white noise machine drones on in the background, evoking a less zombified version of the spell Maryann the bull demon lady cast over the townspeople that time on "True Blood." Lots of fire, sex in different locales and Skarsgard in dapper duds ensue, while a voiceover murmers unrelated bits of suggestive poetry about exploding in the sky and "like convections I rise." Ahem. The whole thing is nearly 10 minutes long -- plenty of time for audiences to theorize whether a smoldering Skarsgard in a white suit will do for CK's new line what Brad Pitt's sexy vacant stares did for Chanel No. 5.
