Brad Pitt's Silly Chanel Ads Did Wonders for the Brand
Whether you thought Brad Pitt's bedroom eyes and sultry recitation of random deep thoughts in those Chanel No. 5 ads that ran last fall were sexy or ridiculous, the folks over at Chanel couldn't be happier that they attached one of Hollywood's prettiest faces to their classic fragrance. It seems Chanel's latest batch of high-end dresses and purses have been flying off the racks in the wake of Brad's endorsement, while the fragrances continue to top the market. But the sales spike shouldn't necessarily be credited to the ads alone. While the media alternately praised and blasted the commercials, Chanel was raking in what one PR consultant estimated to be "hundreds of thousands of dollars' worth of free advertising" -- all thanks to Mr. Angelina Jolie uttering hilariously disconnected one-liners like, "The world turns and we turn with it. Dreams take over. But wherever I go … there you are." (Celebitchy)
