Elton John says he's 'lucky to be alive' after appendicitis
The Rocket Man performed like a boss for 10 whole concerts, despite being in excruciating pain -- a problem he thought was related to food poisoning. When he finally canceled a show in Germany to see a doctor, he learned he had severe appendicitis. "I'm lucky to be alive," he tells The Sun. "I was a ticking time bomb. I guess I could have died at any time. I feel so lucky and so grateful to be alive. I played nine gigs and the White Tie and Tiara Summer Ball in agony." Elton is currently on antibiotics ahead of a scheduled surgery, and has canceled the rest of his summer tour. He hopes to return to the stage in September.
