Us Weekly reports disgruntled employee Kelly wants either Andy or Anderson (both close friends of Kelly) to replace Michael Strahan, who reportedly blindsided her with his decision to leave their show for a full-time gig at "Good Morning America." An insider tells Us, Ripa "hopes Anderson Cooper or Andy Cohen gets the job." In fact, says the source, Kelly "is talking about leaving" if she doesn't get her pick for co-host.
Andy, however, quickly took himself out of the running when he told Us he's too busy to take on a new project. "I have 10 jobs!" he exclaimed.
Well, we have reason to believe Anderson is Kelly's first choice anyway, and the CNN journalist isn't ruling anything out.
Anderson took a positive spin on the possible opportunity when he visited "WWHL" on Thursday, April 28.
"Listen, I love Kelly and I think that show is...Kelly is the heart and soul of that show and it's going to go on and continue to be great and I wish Michael the best in his new endeavor," he responded to a caller who asked whether he was interested in the job.
Anderson is clearly open to exploring the idea. "Look, I'm very happy at CNN," Anderson told Andy. "It would be a dream to work with Kelly, but nobody's offering anything, so…."
We might find out just who will fill the vacant seat on "Live!" sooner than we originally thought. Michael Strahan was supposed to leave the show in September, but after Kelly returned from her four-episode hiatus on Tuesday, April 26, Strahan's departure date was moved up to May 13.
Let's hope Kelly keeps throwing us clues for solving this ongoing mystery.
