A star of the History show "Ax Men" has tragically died in an auto accident in Port Angeles, Washington.
For eight seasons, Gabe Rygaard appeared on the reality series that followed multiple logging crews trying to re-grow damaged forests.
According to reports, Gabe was driving an SUV and he rear ended another car before spinning out of control and into oncoming traffic last Friday. The State Patrol said Gabe was driving his Ford Bronco behind a Chevy Tahoe which was slowing to a stop. Gabe then veered to the left, striking the side of the vehicle. His car then went into oncoming traffic, crashing into an oncoming Dodge Ram van in the other lane.
Gabe, who was taken to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead, was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, the Peninsula Daily News said.
No others were killed in the crash but six others were injured, according to local reports.
The father of three joined the show in its second season, when he took over his father's logging business, Rygaard Logging. He went on to appear on the show through its ninth and final season earlier this year.
Over the week, his wife, Katy, shared her grief on Facebook.
"Yesterday I had to say good bye to my best friend, husband & father to my children. This was the hardest thing that I have ever done. Gabe was our rock," she wrote. "I am still having a hard time trying to get words to come out of my mouth, so I will type this. I am overwhelmed with the love that this community is pouring out to our family. People have asked what we need."
She continued, "We would all appreciate a lot of prayer. That is what will get us through this. Thank you and love to you all. Katy."
In an earlier post, she said, "With great sadness we say good-bye to Gabe. He was a faithful husband, devoted father, brother & son. He loved the Lord Jesus Christ, logging and life. He will be missed. We are thankful for your concern and prayers, but ask you to please respect the family's privacy during this difficult time."
According to the Daily Mail, Gabe is the third cast member to pass within the past four years.
