Now those are fighting words!
Backstreet Boys member A.J. McLean talked to TMZ on March 24 and dished up some pretty controversial opinions in the boy band world. A.J. claimed that N'Sync's Justin Timberlake's vocal chops weren't as impressive as another one of the singer's former "Mickey Mouse Club" colleagues -- Ryan Gosling.
Confirming that there were rumors Ryan tried out to be a member of A.J.'s group Backstreet Boys, the "Everybody" crooner claimed, "I've seen old footage of him singing with like J.T., and I don't know, he can kind of sing in some ways a little better than J.T. I think."
In the '90s and early '00s, A.J.'s Backstreet Boys and Justin's N'Sync were rival boy bands, with many fans falling into one band's camp or the other. But before the old boy band feuds are reignited, A.J. clarified that he and his former musical rival are still buds.
"Justin's fantastic, don't get me wrong, and he's a good friend, but they're obviously different," A.J. shared with TMZ on the musical stylings of Justin and Ryan Gosling, "One's more rock."
The singer might have had a little bias in Ryan's favor, as he shared that they used to be neighbors and basketball buddies. "Him and I used to live in the same apartment complex and we used to shoot ball together back in the day," A.J. explained. On the possibility of the two being band members, A.J. didn't have specifics on the possibility, "There was talks of him wanting to audition. Or maybe he did, I don't even know, and something happened and it just didn't work out."
If Ryan Gosling had been a member of the Backstreet Boys, we have a feeling there would have been more Team BSB over Team N'Sync! But those searching for a fix of the actual boy band members are in luck, a zombie movie starring Backstreet Boys, N'Sync and even 98 Degrees and O-Town members alike hits the Syfy network on April 1. "Dead 7" includes A.J., Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick, Jeff Timmons and Erik-Michael Estrada.
