The plot thickens.

Just days after fans watched Beyonce throw her wedding ring to the ground, singing, "If you try this shit again, you gon' lose your wife," on her musical statement about infidelity, "Lemonade," both Bey and her husband, Jay Z, were spotted with bare left ring fingers.

Backstage at the April 27 kickoff of her Formation tour in the Miami, a photographer caught Beyonce crouching down in an all-black outfit with her left hand raised to her face. She's clearly not wearing the $5 million ring Jay slipped on her finger eight years ago. Other photos from the show, including more of tho pics posted on Beyonce's own website, indicate she kept the sparkler off for the entire performance.

Turns out Jay Z's ring is off, too. An Instagram photo of the Roc Nation founder talking to DJ Khaled shows his left hand pretty clearly, and there's no ring on it.

This is called the "Pre Show Pep Talk" that Jay gave us. Lol. It's hard to explain the amount of pressure bestowed upon you when you're asked to perform as a special guest at a Beyoncé's Formation World Tour. How do you even kill this shit? You're obviously never gonna come close to what she's doin (lol) so what do you do... ?! Me and my brother Khaled sat, brainstormed and said fuck it, let's call everybody up. Lol. So... Special Thanks to Rick Ross, YO Gotti, 2 Chainz, Kent Jones, Trick Daddy, Weezy and Future Hendrix. Y'all helped make Day 1 epic. 🐝🍋🔑 Y'all can come to the show late and play ya selves if you want. Loool. Tampa and ATL next. Stay tuned. #TheFormationTour #Miami #Beyonce #DJKhaled #JayZ #RocNation #Parkwood #KodakLens #Tour

It would seem as if the lyrics on "Lemonade" -- particularly the ones about "Becky with the good hair" -- combined with the ring drop spell splitsville for the power couple.

And yet Bey sent a big shout-out of love to Jay before singing "Halo."

"I want to dedicate this song to my family," she said, according to E! News. "Thank you guys for supporting me. I wanna dedicate this song to my beautiful husband. I love you so much. Blue [Ivy], I love you so much.".

So which of these mixed signals are we supposed to believe?

In the interest of conspiracy theories, it's worth noting Beyonce has a long history of controlling her own narrative in the press and online. She famously banned press photographers from her tour in 2013. And she's carefully documented her family's personal life with approved shots on her Tumblr and website for years.

The videos that accompanied her tale of a couple dealing with and reconciling after a husband's affair all point explicit fingers at Jay Z. Her decision to green light photos of herself sans wedding ring on her official website certainly backs up rumors of marital problems. But it also goes a step further, suggesting she wants us to take note of the fact that what fueled her new music is quite personal and qiute real.

Jay Z seems to be complicit in that. While an official photographer for Bey shot and shared pics of her ringless hand, it was a shutterbug for Roc Nation, the company Jay founded, who posted the pic of his bare ring finger the night of the show.

Beyonce continues her tour this weekend, with concerts in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina. Whether the rings will stay off -- and Jay Z will stay on the road with his wife -- remains to be seen.
