Rapper Coolio was in hot water with the law before Oct. 13, but now that water has been upgraded to scorching levels after he didn't show up to his court date.
On Thursday, Coolio was officially charged with possession of a firearm by a felon for trying to get a loaded gun through security at Los Angeles International Airport on Sept. 17.
As for his reason for his absence, Coolio's lawyer said the rapper had a performance in St. Louis and couldn't make it back in time. TMZ reported that the judge did cut Coolio a break, but demanded he be there for an Oct. 26 court date.
He could face three years in prison if he's convicted.
According to reports, Coolio and his team were leaving Los Angeles but were flagged by TSA agents at a security check because a bag was believed to have a gun in it. After a search, it was confirmed that the bag was carrying a gun.
TMZ reported that one of Coolio's friends tried to claim ownership of the bag, but police spoke to witnesses who said it belonged to the "Gangsta's Paradise" rapper and cookbook author. Coolio was taken off the plane during the incident.
After he was released from jail, he addressed the situation on Twitter, saying, "Just wanted to say something about the little misunderstanding at the airport today. Every thing's fine, I'm fine. I don't know what's going to be the result of this in the future but for now, I'm fine and I appreciate everyone's concern."
He added, "We gotta go on, we gotta push on and forward hip hop."
He hasn't addressed the arrest since then and was even tweeting on Thursday as he was officially charged.
