Adele's hotly-anticipated Grammys performance was hit by sound issues - but ever the professional, she soldiered on and still received a standing ovation.

The 27-year-old singer was performing her hit track "All I Ask" - but at times looked visibly nervous and as if she couldn't hear through her ear piece.

At certain points during her rendition, the usually flawless British singer appeared to be slightly off-beat and struggled to hit some of the notes.

Although it was widely thought to be an issue caused by the following act, Justin Bieber's sound check, a CBS spokesperson confirmed to the AP that there was a five-to-eight second technical issue with the broadcast and added that it was outside the network's control.

"I love you Kendrick. You're amazing," she told the crowd after her performance. Although she looked frustrated, she quickly turned on a huge megawatt smile upon receiving big cheers from the crowd.

Twitter, on the other hand, was awash with reaction from angry fans, who blamed the sound technicians.

"The sound guy just messed up the sound during Adele's performance so everyone get your damn pitchforks," wrote Twitter user @TheMichelleBui.

@NickiFioravante added: "All of the sound guys in the building better be fired immediately. #adele #Grammys2016."

While @AdamDSchick tweeted: "I'm pretty sure blowing the sound mix on an @Adele performance is a federal crime… What is up with that guitar hit?!? #GRAMMYs."

Adele has admitted in the past that she gets nervous before performing. In a November 2015 interview with NPR, she admitted, "I get so nervous with live performances that I'm too frightened to try anything new."

Performing at the Grammys isn't new for the British singer, but it was her first Grammys performance since 2012. Although she hasn't been on their stage during music's biggest night in a few years, she has an impressive history with the awards show.

She won the Best New Artist award in 2009, a trophy that helps put artists on the map -- or dooms them to never be heard from again. Of course all know what happened in Adele's case. Over the years, she has been nominated for 13 Grammys and she has won a total of 10. In 2012, she won six of those and joined Beyonce as the only other female artist in the award show's history to achieve that feat in a single night.

So why wasn't Adele nominated this year for her record-breaking album "25" that we can't stop listening to? The album's release date was in November 2015, two months after submissions closed for the 2016 awards.

With tonight's performance in mind, we have a feeling 2017 will be Adele's year!

Before she took the stage, Adele, whose son, Angelo is now 3 years old, stunned in a long black, long-sleeved Givenchy gown on the carpet. She changed into a glittering red, long-sleeve dress that showed off her slimmed down figure for her performance. Her winged eyeliner looked as perfect as ever as did her layered bob.

Oh Adele, we missed you!
