Kids are supposed to be cute and adorable and bubbly, right? When it comes to horror films, though, they're as creepy as those big-eyed dolls that we all envision coming to life in the middle of the night.
This week, the "Conjuring 2" offers up its most sinister kids and they're sure to give you goosebumps.
Madison Wolfe, who plays Janet Hodgson, is perhaps the most eerie of them all as she plays a girl who experiences the Supernatural in a haunting way and is desperate for help.
"My transformation is a really interesting thing," the normally adorable 13-year-old girl told USA Today, adding that they cut and dyed her hair, donned colored contacts and fake teeth. "I did a lot of things to become Janet."
Of the demonically possessed character (which is based off a real person,) director James Wan told USA Today, "I was very nervous because Janet is the spine of the movie. I cannot for the life of me believe we found [Madison], of all places, in a good ol' Southern gal of a kid. But my mind was blown."
Madison joins a long line of on-screen kids who are sure to creep out even most diehard fans of the horror genre. Below are five of children who will probably keep you up at night.
Mischa Barton as Kyra Collins in "The Sixth Sense" — Haley Joel Osment wasn't the only creepster in "The Sixth Sense." Mischa's character had a name, but you might remember her best as "that girl who barfed" and suddenly appeared out of nowhere. Just look at that face!
Miko Hughes as Gage Creed in "Pet Sematary" — He was the undead kid in the film and his face still evokes haunting feelings from people who know the film was fiction. He was in a few family friendly films after that, but no one can shake this kid's eerie stare.
Isabelle Fuhrman as Esther Coleman in "Orphan" — At only 12, Isabelle pulled off the tricky role of Esther, the alleged orphan who moves in with parents played by Vera Farmiga and Peter Sarsgaard, only to reveal herself to be a mentally and emotionally grown-up seductress bent on knocking off her new mom and shacking up with her new dad.
Linda Blair as Regan MacNeil in "The Exorcist" — Perhaps the gold standard of creepy kids, Linda was a demon-possessed moppet in the unforgettable film and immediately made her mark in Hollywood. If we never see her in Regan's makeup again, it will be too soon.
Daveigh Chase as Samara Morgan in "The Ring" — In this horror film, Daveigh was crawling out of wells and screwing up TVs as the angry ghost girl. That pale face and big eyes still sends shivers down our spines.
