The final season of "The Vampire Diaries" is upon us, and it has the potential to send shivers down Nikki Reed's spine, at the most. Or make her very nervous, at the very least.

Why?

Season 8 of the CW will re-team her husband Ian Somerhalder with his ex girlfriend Nina Dobrev, whom he was rumored to be heart broken by.

According to multiple reports, the former couple will have many romantic scenes together, which might not sit well with Nikki.

The website Celeb Dirty Laundry said the notion of romantic scenes "may have already put stress" on Ian and Nikki's marriage.

Ian, of course, began dating Nikki very soon after he and Nina broke up after three years of dating. Ian and Nikki married in April 2015, very quickly after they began dating, but many people believe that Ian never actually stopped loving Nina.

Last year, Nina said she wouldn't return to the show if it caused marital strain for her ex.

"I've said this before, that we didn't break up because anything bad happened or because there wasn't love or friendship," Nina told E! News last year. "I love him and the friendship is still strong and I think he's great and I care about him. And that didn't change. Yes, we're professional and that's fine. We were friends long before we dated and we still are now."

Addressing his nuptials with Nikki, she said, "When I heard about the wedding, I thought it was beautiful. They look happy and I am happy and so I don't see why there should be a problem with that. The drama is in the media, it's not with us. But of course, we're on a teen drama show, everyone's going to look for drama. If there's no drama, there's nothing to write about. I just ignore it."

Perhaps this is all much ado about nothing.

In April, as rumors began floating around that Nina would return to the series, a source told Hollywood life, "Nikki and Ian are so in love. There's nothing he could possibly do to upset her. The idea of Ian and Nina reuniting on screen for 'The Vampire Diaries' doesn't bother her one bit. She has no issues with this whatsoever. Nikki and Ian are celebrating their one year anniversary on April 26, and that's what she's most looking forward to for the time being."
