John Boyega made quite the fashion statement on the red carpet at the world premiere of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" on Dec. 14.

The 23-year-old actor opted to pair his custom plum Versace tuxedo with an unusual accessory -- one black leather glove. Though at first glance the style selection seemed like an accident, the statement was actually thought out well in advance.

John rocked the solitary leather glove as a nod to the "Star Wars" franchise, a shoutout to Mark Hamill's character, Luke Skywalker. Of the addition, John told E! News on the red carpet, "The fans will get it. This is Luke Skywalker's hand that got chopped off, and replaced with his robotic hand...This is my Star Wars-esque homage."

The new "Star Wars" member was right. Diehard "Star Wars" fans caught on right away, picking up on his reference, and even tweeted theories about whether or not this meant foreshadowing for John's character, Finn.

Aside from the eyebrow-raising glove, John's entire ensemble was by Versace. The fashion house made the three-piece suit with black satin shawl lapels custom for the actor, who also rocked a Versace bow tie, dress shirt and patent leather Versace dress shoes for the big night.
