It's the next step for popular YouTubers and Viners.
Alx James already has those platforms covered so he decided to launch his own app called "Waterbug Army" for his "waterbugs."
For those who aren't familiar with Alx, he calls his fans "waterbugs" as a descriptor for people who wear oversized sunglasses.
Alx made the announcement for his app on his YouTube channel today and told Wonderwall.com about why he launched it.
"I wanted to create a place where my fans could meet one another. I have millions of people who watch my videos but they only know me! I want them all to get to know each other," he explained. "My fans should not only support me, I want them to support one another! Having a friend, whether through the Internet or in real life, keeps people on the right track."
The app will allow his fans to post a variety of different content formats including texts, photos, videos, GIFs and polls as well as comment, repost or remix other user's posts. Fans will also be able to see all of his posts, and he will use the app to give his most passionate following exclusive content and behind-the scenes footage as well as tease upcoming videos.
With nearly 700,000 subscribers on YouTube, Alex also has one of the biggest Vine followings, thanks to his over 7 million followers.
In 2014, Alx also received his own reality TV deal with Collins Avenue.
"Once in a great while a uniquely talented and quick-witted individual like Alx comes along that instantly captures the public's attention," Collins Avenue President Jeff Collins said. "We believe his memorable character spoofs, distinctive voices and extraordinary ability to tell a compelling story with a beginning, middle and end in just six seconds will allow us to expand the bounds of reality television in innovative new ways."
And now you can download the app to get even more of his story!
