Why so powerful: Named one of most successful fundraisers on public television, Orman cut her teeth in the financial industry at Merrill Lynch and Prudential in the 1980s before starting her own business in 1987. Orman is a widely outspoken advocate of financial education for women and has offered her financial advice on "The Oprah Winfrey Show." She also has her own show, "The Suze Orman Show," and is the author of nine books, seven of which are New York Times Best Sellers. In 2009 Orman was No. 18 on the Forbes list of most influential women in media.
