Johnny Weir's split from husband Victor Voronov has quickly gone nuclear. In court papers filed in response to the Olympic figure skater's recent divorce filing, Voronov has asked for financial support and the return of their little dog, Tëma.
"[Weir] is attempting to rewrite history to paint me in a bad light and to deflect attention away from his own wrongdoing," he asserts (via People and E! News). "He has done the same thing in the media, embarking on a publicity frenzy to demonize me with the intent to further increase his already profitable celebrity status and goodwill."
Voronov alleges Weir has left him high and dry money-wise, and he wants "status quo" support to "keep the lights on and a roof over my head, as well as other more urgent matters." He's also seeking legal fees.
He contends that he left his job as an Atlanta attorney for Weir's sake, and right now, he does "not have any income, assets, or resources and, as a direct result of [Weir]'s media attack, I currently do not have any prospects for employment."
"Victor gave up his job for the marriage and moved to New Jersey at Johnny's request," his lawyer tells People. "They had very traditional roles -- Victor supported Johnny in his career and here is Victor, getting the rug pulled out from him."
As for their pooch, Voronov maintains the fluffy Japanese Chin was a "make-up gift" from Weir after he caught him "sexting with another man." Now he wants him back, insisting that he's the pup's "exclusive caretaker" and was "devastated" when his estranged spouse removed him from their home.
"I trained him, walked him, took him to the veterinarian," Voronov writes. "By way of example, in 2014 alone, plaintiff has not spent more than four consecutive days at home; how he could suggest that he primarily cared for Tëma is beyond the pale."
Also at stake are a boutique's worth of designer accessories. Voronov accuses Weir of taking the following: "crocodile Celine bag, 40 Balenciaga Bags, 20 furs (including a $125,000 sable), Cartier Calibre rose-gold watch, green Hermes shoulder Birkin, orange Hermes Birkin, 12 Chanel bags and numerous other items."
In a text message exchange last September (via TMZ), Weir scolded Voronov for purportedly defacing one of his expensive bags following a spat: "If you decide to wreck things, please wreck cheaper things than Birkins."
The pair married sans prenup in December 2011. In January, police were called to intervene in a domestic dispute incident that led to Weir's arrest. At the couple's request, the case was dismissed.
"I've been having a tough time at home for a long time now, and it's something that I've kept from the public," Weir told "Access Hollywood" last week. "I was losing myself by being married to my husband. I was losing my objectives in life. I was very isolated from the world."
