In the good old days, when music stars broke up, they'd settle their differences in the most dignified manner possible: with a dance-off. But Rihanna and Chris Brown are no Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears (alas), and when they crossed paths earlier this week, it appears the only move they traded was some serious side eye.
According to the New York Post, RiRi and Brown "shot dirty looks" at each other when they both ended up partying at Los Angeles hot spot Greystone on Sunday night.
Chris turned up first, with girlfriend Karrueche Tran in tow, and started downing champagne at a table with rapper Game. RiRi made her entrance a short time later, plopping down near the DJ booth with actor and comedian Kevin Hart.
"Chris and Rihanna sat a few tables away from each other and shot dirty looks at each other all night," recalls an eyewitness. "No one saw them actually interact. Rihanna was escorted to the bathroom multiple times and walked by Chris' table each time, not even batting an eyelash."
But was their meet-up merely an unfortunate coincidence? Not according to Hollywood Life, which claims it was "100 percent planned."
The close encounter comes on the heels of Rihanna's testy chat with Esquire UK, which got her hackles up by asking if her recent collaboration with Brown "sent the wrong message."
"What message would that be?" RiRi shot back. When the mag responded, "You'd gone back to someone who put you in the hospital," she grew more agitated: "Oh really? Did I? ... Did I? Did I? Did I?"
She countered that it was a "completely professional environment" before adding, "If I went back to him [as a girlfriend], then that's a whole different discussion. And if I ever do, then that's something that y'all have to talk to me about when -- if -- that ever happens. Until then, look at it for what it is. I think a lot of people jumped to an assumption that was incorrect and they ended up looking stupid."
