The mazel tovs have quickly turned to oy veys over Simon Cowell's impending parenthood with New York socialite Lauren Silverman, the estranged wife of his pal, Andrew Silverman. The New York Post reports that the dream-crushing TV mogul, 53, has been named as a co-respondent in Andrew's adultery-citing divorce papers, which were filed in Manhattan Supreme Court in mid-July.
That's bad news for Cowell, who could now be called to testify in the couple's split and provide details of his estimated $350 million fortune.
"It's really a signal to the spouse who cheated that the wronged spouse is very angry and that it's going to be a very nasty, scorched-earth, high-profile litigation," explains divorce attorney Martha Cohen Stine to the Post, with another divorce lawyer adding to the Daily Mail, "It's all going to very muddy, muddled and an absolute nightmare for Simon."
That's quite a change from the friendly relationship he once enjoyed with the Silvermans. In recent years, he's frequently been photographed yachting with the couple, although just how chummy Simon was with real-estate developer Andrew remains in question.
"Andrew and Simon were not best friends," a source assures People. "They are friends. They have both been vacationing in Barbados for years."
BFFs or no, Lauren's transfer of affections has not gone over well with her spouse's family.
"It is an unbelievable story of betrayal," Andrew's brother huffs to the Post. "It is a sad story and a tragic story."
One that has two very different storylines. An insider pushes the wronged-husband narrative to the paper, claiming that the Silvermans "weren't estranged. The suggestion that she was an estranged wife who fell into another man's arms is not the case."
As evidence, a spy contends that Andrew, 37, recently upgraded his wife's engagement ring to a honkin' 10-carat rock.
The Post, which disses Lauren, 36, as everything from a "gold digger" to a "scheming social climber," alleges she "blindsided" her oblivious husband "long after the affair was in full swing."
But other sources insist to Us that Lauren and Andrew, who have a 7-year-old son, were "unhappy in their marriage for some time, and their divorce has been in the works for a while."
A snitch verifies that version of events to People.
"It was probably not the best relationship when she first met Simon," says the confidant. "It wasn't like they were blissfully in love at the time. She was definitely unhappy in her marriage, and it's been a while that the marriage was not great. Andrew is a very nice guy but all marriages don't last."
Lauren, who is believed to be about 10 weeks along, "is ecstatic to be with Simon" and "overjoyed" by the pregnancy. According to the mag, they've been together "for more than a few months."
As for Cowell, he's said to be "thrilled" (and/or "freaked out," depending on which source you believe) at the prospect of becoming a dad.
